3 Ideas to Change the Way You Think
No Intro, let’s begin.
Idea #1 Creativity Faucet
With ‘Shape of You’ standing at 6.2 billion views,
Ed Sheeran is in the top echelon of music artists,
This is a feat most musicians won’t ever reach.
But was it talent? Was it natural? No.
Listen to this clip of him singing before he was good.
You will cringe so hard that your face will become unrecognizable.
How did Ed Sheeran go from that to being one of the best in the world?
Ed Sheeran explains this idea of a creativity faucet.
In the beginning, you will suck. But you have to just keep creating.
Make more mistakes and iterations. Gain experience that way.
Even if the idea is bad just get it out of you, because at least then it’s out of you and you can move on.
Only once the dirty water is out of you will the clean water flow.
Idea #2 Agitation precedes focus
The moment I sit to study, I’ll immediately lock in, get in the zone and focus.
That’s what I used to think subconsciously.
But turns out that’s the wrong way to think about it.
The neuroscience father of the internet - Andrew Huberman- says that your mind has to go through some agitation, resistance or irritation before you can enter flow or focus.
When you sit down to work and you can’t immediately focus. it’s completely fine and even expected.
You just have to push through the initial resistance.
Idea #3 Confidence
Confidence without evidence is delusion - Alex Hormozi.
If you call Arnold Schwarzenegger skinny, he’d laugh it off.
If your business pulled in hundreds of millions of dollars, and someone called you a bad businessman, you’d be unphased.
Because in both these statements, there’s insurmountable evidence against them.
The biggest predictor for future success are past success, so collect your wins.
—Alex Hormozi(paraphrased)
Now to contradict everything you just read, here’s another line on confidence I love:
Confidence is not a belief in success. It's a comfort with failure.
—Mark Manson
You need to have something to back you up to be confident.
But at the same time, rejections and failure shouldn’t bring down self-confidence, instead, you need to see them as wins.
Count every rejection as a success.
Or to summarize everything: just do something.
That’s it for this article, bye :)
